Edgewater Community Information

The hamlet of Edgewater is a small, old community. It was originally established as a farming community prior to World War I. Its name comes from being on the edge of the Columbia River waters. Today you’ll find a mix of heritage properties, larger parcels of flatter land. Being a rural community the commercial presence is limited. There is a gas station, automotive repair shop, general store, and campground.

The most well-known feature attraction is the fully operational flume still used today for irrigation purposes and the Fire Department’s annual Duck Race.

Edgewater is well known for having an abundance of wildlife roaming through the community. Residents know to pay close attention to elk and deer which commonly leap into the road at any time.

Neighbouring Kootenay National Park offers fabulous camping, backpacking, and great hiking trails, including the Floe Lake/Hawke Creek Trail and the Stanley Glacier Trail. If you are an experienced hiker and looking for a more challenging trail, head just northwest of Edgewater to Bugaboo Provincial Park for a first-class mountaineering experience. This park attracts mountain climbers from around the world.
