About Golden Rural
Rural Golden encompasses the communities of Donald, Blaeberry, Moberly, Field, Edelweiss, Nicholson, McMurdo, Parson, Castledale, Harrogate and even Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, but you can click on the specific community link for that one. The Valley was discovered by David Thompson in 1807 and surveyed by Palliser, Rogers, McMillan and eventually the Swiss Guides at the beginning of the 1900s for the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Columbia River Logging Company that went out of business in 1926 when a huge forest fire ripped through the valley and burned up most of their timber supply. The little communities prevailed and now thrive with tourism, mining, transportation and other industries including logging. The rich history also remains intact and can be explored at the Golden Museum and Archives.
